Hand-stamps.-A self-inking turn-over handstamp is fitted with means for locating the impression comprising a transparent index plate lettered or otherwise marked to correspond with the impression and movable, by the movement of the stamp, between a position where it shows exactly where the impression will be made and a position clear thereof. The index plate may be made of celluloid, gelatine, mica, tracing-cloth, fine muslin, &c. In one arrangement, the under plate f, Fig. 1, is carried by arms E pivoted to a clip e engaging the top plate A of the stamp frame, and normally rests between guides f at the base of the frame. When the stamp is depressed, the strap C acts on the ends e<1> of the arms E to swing the plate clear of the stamp. In one modification, the clip e is dispensed with and the arms E constructed to rock on a pivot carried by lugs on the plate A or on end pivots projecting from the sides of the frame. These arrangements may 'be constructed as attachments to existing stamps. In another modification, the under plate f, Fig. 9, is held in a clip fixed to a rod a<2> which is rocked to turn the plate into a vertical position out of the way, by a lever a<5> pivoted on a rod of the reciprocating frame and carrying a pin a<4> engaging a slot in a lever a<3> integral with the clip.
