Abstract

1395361 Presser foot R B HOWELL 8 Aug 1972 [13 Aug 1971] 36990/72 Heading D1G A presser foot including a roller 18 journalled in supports 22, 24 by live axles has the end of one axle rounded and one support provided with a channel whereby a needle thread T may be passed between roller and the support. The presser foot which is of plastics material presents projections 22, 24 having holes 28, 30 (or a notch, Fig. 10 not shown) receiving live axles 32, 34 of the roller 18 which, as shown, is of a form grooved for guiding zipper teeth. The projection 34 is curved as at 38 to define with the curved end of the short axle 34 a cleft in which the needle thread T is entered to pass into notch 40 and past the roller, in direction 44, to enter the needle space 28. The projections are stiff vertically to accommodate the vertical load on the roller but allow lateral movement to permit axle 34 to leave its hole 40 while swinging about axle 32, to permit the removal of the roller.
