1394438 Travelling-wave tubes ENGLISH ELECTRIC VALVE CO 19 Sept 1973 [3 Oct 1972] 45439/72 Heading H1D A microwave amplifier includes a pair of electron beams 7, 7<SP>1</SP> directed along the respective spaces between a meander slow-wave structure 9 and a pair of opposed electrodes 8, 8<SP>1</SP>, whereby each beam is deflected by the transverse electric field to pass through a respective one of a respective pair of apertures 13, 13<SP>1</SP> in the screen 12 and impinge upon one or other of the semi-conducting diodes of respective diode pairs 14, 15 and 14<SP>1</SP>, 151, which diodes provide an amplified output signal. As shown, the meander line is provided with input and output coaxial lines and a dissipative load 11, and the diodes 14, 14<SP>1</SP> are connected to the inner, and diodes 15, 15<SP>1</SP> to the outer, conductor of an output coaxial line 17. The plate electrodes 8 and 8<SP>1</SP> may diverge towards the output end of the tube, and output line 17 may alternatively be a strip line.
