Abstract
995,196. Electron beam parametric amplifiers. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. Sept. 21, 1961 [Sept. 24, 1960], No. 33853/61. Heading H1D. A parametric amplifier having input, pump, and output electrode systems, comprises partcylindrical deflection electrodes having parallel arcuate part-cylindrical surfaces arranged one on each side of the beam for guiding the electron beam along a curved path over part of its track between the electron gun and collector. The arcuate electrode system and the pump electrode system may be combined to form four arcuate electrodes, Fig. 2 (not shown). A magnetic field produced by a permanent or electromagnet may be crossed with the electric field produced by the arcuate electrode system. The input and output electrode systems are also arcuate. A system of electrodes 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17 assists in guiding the electron beam in its arcuate path. The input and output couplers may each extend over 15 degrees and the pump over 142 degrees of the arc. The input coupler may alternatively be a delay line, e.g. a folded Lecher line, having a transverse electric field. An additional coupler or couplers between the gun and the input coupler may remove noise; the input coupler may also remove noise.
