Abstract
1394288 Filling valve for a packaging machine WANDER Ltd 15 Nov 1973 [15 Aug 1972] 37933/72 Heading B8C [Also in Division G3] A valve 1 comprises an annular outer shield 2 and a flexible thimble 3 disposed within the shield and having a plurality of fingers 4 therein for retaining particulate material. The valve 1 is adapted to be attached, e.g. by screwing, to the filling tube 5 of a packaging machine used to fill flowable material, e.g. food material such as curry sauce, into a rigid, or flexible pouch, sachet, or container. The valve is particularly suitable for filling sachets, which are continuously produced from a laminate of packaging material, the flowable material passing down the pipe 5, past the fingers 4 which are pushed apart, and into a sachet until the appropriate quantity of material has been delivered thereinto. Suction is then applied through the filling tube 5 to contract the fingers 4 and to stop the flow of material while the sachet is closed by a seam. The shield 2 is made, e.g. of stainless steel, the thimble 3 being formed of a sterilizable material such as rubber. The fingers 4, which may be truncated, can be shaped according to the particulate material being packaged.
