Abstract

1393856 Controlling ink and/or damping liquid in litho offset machines HEIDELBERGER DRUCKMASCHINEN AG 21 March 1973 [25 March 1972] 13580/73 Heading B6C In a sheet-fed litho offset press the ink and water on the plate are monitored by suitably filtered light rays which, upon reflection from the plate surface, are converted into electrical signals which are compared with standard values in a control box. Any deviation from the standard values causes motors driving the ductor rollers of either or both the ink and water supplies to operate and thus increase or decrease ink and/or water supplies to the plate surface. The light rays are filtered by filter discs which rotate in dependence upon the rotation of the plate cylinder, different filters being automatically swung in front of a light source as the water or inked portions of the plate surface are scanned by a head which causes signals to be transmitted to a motor driving the filter disc. Other factors such as the plate surface, the temperature and fluctuations in the light source may also be measured by light and used to control ink and water.
