Abstract

1393755 Steam generator L KATZMAN and E BRIGGIN 19 Sept 1972 [28 Sept 1971 13 Dec 1971] 43246/72 Heading A5G [Also in Division F4] Apparatus for electrically generating steam, particularly for therapeutic use, of the type in which water in a container passes into a heating chamber 12 containing an electrode assembly and steam is discharged through an outlet 14 in a cap 10, an insulating assembly is spaced around the chamber 12 and allows restricted passage of water. The double walled assemblies shown may be replaced by single wall contructions (Figs 2, 3, 4 and 6, not shown) and passage of water is effected either by orifices in the wall(s) as shown (and Figs 5, 6, 8, 9 and 12 not shown) or by defining restricted passages between the base of the wall(s) and the base of the container (Fig 7, not shown). In one double walled construction disclosed (Figs 10, 11 not shown) in which splits are formed in both walls and in another (Fig 13, not shown) an air space is formed between the walls and a tube through the walls delivers water. In the embodiment shown in fig 17 the space 762 between the insulating assembly and the heating chamber communicates with the atmosphere via orifices 764 to allow excess steam to escape and reduce 'spitting'. A baffle 780 and a concave surround 740 to the cap 624 also reduce 'spitting' from steam outlet 700.
