Abstract

The ionisation head produces negative ions in quantities sufficiently large for air conditioning purposes, the ions having a suitable lifetime without the generation of ozone, the head consists of an annular anode (1) producing a 130 kilovolt per centimetre with the central rod cathode (2). A heater element built into the anode raises the temperature to 200 deg.C. A coil (8) in the output face of the anode, suitably insulated thermally and electrically, produces a field to direct the ions towards an annular ring (11) which emits, through holes (13) on its inside surface, a gas which removes any ozone generated. The gas chosen should not be toxic or unpleasant and may include some form of acceptable fragrance. A flow of air (F) through the head is produced by a static air pressure of at least two atmospheres.
