1393700 Piperidine derivatives JOHN WYETH & BRO Ltd 10 Dec 1973 [21 Dec 1972] 59143/72 Addition to 1345872 Heading C2C Novel d-isomers of compounds of the formula in which [W] = aryl, A = hydroxyalkylene or -OCH 2 CH(OH)CH 2 - and R = phenyl or cyclohexyl, and acid addition salts thereof, are prepared from the racemates by resolution using an optically active acid. In the single example, (d) - 4 - benzamido - 1 (4 - phenyl - 4 - hydroxybutyl)piperidine is prepared via (- -4-benzamido- (4 - phenyl - 4 - hydroxybutyl)piperidine di- O,O-p-toluoyl tartrate. Pharmaceutical compositions having hypotensive activity, for oral or parenteral activity, comprise one of the above d-isomers or acid addition salts, together with a pharmaceutical carrier.
