Abstract

1393679 Adjusting vehicle headlamps JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd 12 June 1972 [3 July 1971] 31282/71 Heading F4R A vehicle headlamp 11 is supported so as to be pivotable about a horizontal axis through socket connectors 15 by the movement of an adjusting mechanism including a cam lever 22 which is pivotally mounted on lamp support 14 and which has a cam surface 23 which engages a bolt head 21 that is adjustably attached to the headlamp 11. Relative movement of the cam surface 23 and the lamp unit 11 causes movement of the lamp unit relative to the dished lamp unit support 14 attached to the vehicle body. A tension spring 24 extends from the support 14 to the lamp unit, below its pivot axis to urge the lamp unit 11 and the cam surface 23 into contact. Bolt 19 engages a nut 18 secured to the lamp unit rim 13 and enables basic adjustment of the headlamp. A second headlamp 12, Fig. 3, may be similarly mounted and the pair are adjusted together according to the attitude of the vehicle by rotating a shaft 27 in response to signals transmitted thereto by Bowden cable or hydraulically. The connectors 15 comprise synthetic resin sockets 16 and ball members 17 adjustably mounted on supports 14.
