1483218 Adjusting vehicle headlamps ROBERT BOSCH GmbH 6 Aug 1974 [7 Aug 1973] 34485/74 Heading F4R A mechanism for manually and automatically adjusting motor vehicle headlamps comprises a frame 10 in which the headlamp reflector 11 is pivotably mounted, a displacement unit 24 having a cylinder 25 secured to the frame 10 and a piston-rod 26 coupled to the reflector 11 by way of a pivoted lever 12 for adjusting it in response to changes in the loading of the vehicle, and a manually operable arrangement coinprising the flexible shaft and screw threaded member arrangement 16-21, for providing a basic setting adjustment of the reflector with respect to the lever. As shown, the headlamp reflector 11 and lever 12, which is attached to the piston-rod 26 and by a spring 15 to the reflector 11, are pivotably mounted about a horizontal axle 13, thus facilitating the automatic load-sensitive adjustment. Manual adjustment is provided for by a flexible shaft 16 having screw-threaded extensions 17, 21 at respective ends, the bolt 21 being screwed into a bore 22 in the lever 12 with its free end abutting the rim 23 of the reflector. A slotted head 19 in the pin 17 is rotated to adjust the relative positions of thereflector 11 and lever 12. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown), the bolt on the flexible shaft is hingedly mounted on the reflector and the lever axially secures the manual adjustment screw.
