Abstract

1392979 Bleaching pulp MO OCH DOMSJO AB 13 Dec 1972 [14 Dec 1971] 57574/72 Heading D1P Bleached pulp is formed by mechanically liberating wood fibres in a grinding region, bleaching the pulp obtained with a peroxide as the sole bleaching agent, the mechanical liberation of the fibres being carried out in the presence of spent liquor of pH greater than 7.0 from the peroxide bleaching stage. The bleaching agent may be hydrogen peroxide, sodium peroxide or paracetic acid. The spent water may contain complex formers such as ethylenediamine - tetraacetic acid, nitrilotriacetic acid, diethylenetriamine penteracetic acid, ethylenediamine triacetic acid, tetraethylenepenteramine heptaacetic acid, hydroxethylenediamine triacetic acid and alkali metal salts thereof, iminodiacetic acid, 2- hydroxyethylimino diacetic acid, cyclohexanediamine tetraacetic acid, anthranil-N, N-diacetic acid, 2-picolylamine-N, N-diacfftic acid, RCHOHCOOH or RCHOHCH 2 COOH where R is H or C1-9 alkyl, e.g. glycolic acid, lactic acid, 1, 2 hydroxypropionic acid, dihydroxybutyric acid, hydroxy-n-valeric acid, sugar acids, aldonic acids such as gluconic acid, galactonic acid, mannonic acid and saccharinic acid. The liquor may also contain magnesium oxide, magnesium hydroxide, magnesium carbonate, magnesium chloride, magnesium nitrate, magnesium acetate, magnesium sulphate or magnesium complexes of the above complex formers sodium hydroxide or sodium silicate. As shown, wood is ground 1, passed to pressure screens and centricleaners 2, screened 3, dewatered 4, pumped 5, bleached 6 passed to cap-forming machine 7 and dried at 8. Bleaching liquor is returned to the grinding stage via line 17. Reject screenings can be refined 9, screened 10 and recycled.
