Abstract

1392690 Leak testing CROSS CO 12 Dec 1973 [8 Jan 1973] 57625/73 Addition to 1338218 Heading G1S In testing a workpiece 350 for leaks, the workpiece is rapidly pre-filled for a predetermined time and the flow-rate required to maintain a test pressure in the workpiece measured, the prefilling being carried out in first and second stages using pressure sources at a high pressure and at the test pressure respectively, and switching between the first and second stages being carried out automatically by a pressure switch 3 PS. In the apparatus shown, which is a modification of the embodiment of Figs. 1 to 5 (not shown) of the parent Specification, the high pressure source is provided by a regulator 338 and the test pressure source by regulator 341. At the commencement of pre-filling, the workpiece 350 is connected to regulator 338 via line 301, and valves 302, 351 and 356. When a pressure just below the test pressure is attained in the workpiece, pressure switch 3 PS operates and energizes solenoid 4. This causes valves 302 to shift and connect the workpiece to regulator 341. At the end of the predetermined pre-filling time, time switch 2TR (c.f. Figs.1 to 5 (not shown)) operates and shifts valve 351 to connect the workpiece to the flow measuring element 317. The remainder of the operating cycle is as described in the parent Specification.
