1392507 Time recorders J SCHLENKERGRUSEN 21 April 1972 [22 April 1971] 18689/72 Heading G4T [Also in Division G1] Apparatus for recording time details (e.g. times of attendance, arrival or departure or periods of use), on a card (not shown), comprises a stationary card holder 4 and a printing unit 6, the unit being horizontally movable in a frame 5 for printing the time details at selected transverse positions (indicative for example of particular events), on the card, the frame 5 being vertically movable on guide rods 2a, 2b for determining the longitudinal position (indicative, for example of particular days), of the printed details on the card. Bushes 27 on the frame 5 embrace the guide rods 2 and the vertical movement is imparted to the frame 5 by a motor 7 via a cam 9, lever 8, gearing 12, 29 and gear wheels 24a, 24b engaging racks (not shown), secured to the frame 5. A spring 10 almost counterbalances the weight of the frame 5. The unit 6 is moved horizontally within the frame 5 by a motor 20 acting through a cam 21, lever 19, segment 18 and steel band 16 to move rightwardly a slide 14, attached to the unit 6 by a rod 13. A spring 17 effects the return movement to the left. The horizontal and vertical positions of the unit 6 may be indicated electrically by spring sliding contacts 33, 40 carried by the slide 14 and the bush 27c over stationary plates 29, 36 to connect respective live conductive strips 30, 35 to spaced contacts 31, 37. Signals, indicating which contacts 31, 37 are live, i.e. the position of unit 6, may be transmitted to a data processing system. Alternatively, a contact 31 and a contact 37, together representing a desired position of the unit 6, may be energized, e.g. by depressing keys, and the sensing of these energized contacts by the sliding contacts 33, 40 be used to de-energize the motors 20, 7. A scanning or punching device (28), Figs. 2 and 3 (not shown), is mounted behind a base plate 1 of the apparatus for scanning or punching holes in a particular region of the card. Device (28) is connected to a data processing system. The unit 6 includes time wheels 6a, a drive 23 therefor, an inked ribbon 6b and means (not shown), for pressing the wheels and the ribbon against the card.
