Abstract

1392424 Heat-treating granular particles HEURTEY METALLURGIE 28 Aug 1973 [30 Aug 1972] 40502/73 Headings F4U and F4B In apparatus for heating fines, the fines are transported by a stream of gas from a feeder 13 through a bed of particles 2, capable of transferring heat to the fines in contact therewith, the fines passing through a first port 8 of the bed in which the particles have been heated by burners 9 and a second part in which the heated fines give up heat to the particles therein. As shown, the particles pass downwardly through a thermally insulated vessel from the second to the first part of the bed and are recycled from the lower portion of the first by a conveyer 4 and elevator 6, and are in countercurrent flow to the fines which pass through a perforated wall 10 into the bed and are removed to a cyclone separator. The fines may be predried in a drier 28. In a modification (Fig. 2, not shown), the apparatus is of inverted U-shape, having the burners positioned between the two legs, and the fines pass from the lower end of one leg to the lower end of the other, whilst the particles remain stationary. The gas current direction may be repeatedly reversed.
