Abstract

1392405 Continuous determination of oxidizable contaminants PROCEDYNE CORP 5 March 1973 [21 March 1972] 10561/73 Heading G1B Apparatus for continuously determining in terms of T.O.D. the total quantity of oxidizable contaminants in an aqueous stream comprises means 10, 12, 14 for providing a sample of the stream at a predetermined constant volumetric rate, a continuously operating fluidized bed bottom-fed reactor 18 to vaporize the sample stream, means 25b to heat the reactor, means 45 to remove entrained solids from the reactor offtake, means 22, 25, 27 to deliver oxygen to the reactor at a predetermined volumetric rate proportional to the volumetric rate of flow of the sample, means 41 to remove water from the offtake and means for determining the concentration of oxygen in the off-gas from the reactor, the difference between the quantity of oxygen delivered to the reactor and that in the off-gas being related to the total quantity of oxidizable contaminants in the stream.
