Abstract

1392301 Laminated hovercraft skirts DEFENCE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR 13 June 1972 [20 May 1971] 15929/71 Heading B5N [Also in Divisions B2 and B7] A hovercraft skirt is comprised by two continuous flexible layers of different effective bulk modulus, the higher (H) being arranged to be more exposed in use than the lower (L) to the surface being traversed. Both layers may be elastomeric, e.g. rubber, and L may be deposited on to H, which may be reinforced by nylon or polyester sheet or fabric. An isocyanate bonding agent may be present in the rubber and a rubber barrier coating may be included between the layers. The layer L may have grooves or sipes in its rear surface or may be foamed, and may be at least one-third as thick, and preferably thicker, than the layer H.
