Abstract

915,345. Body armour. LONZA ELECTRIC & CHEMICAL WORKS Ltd. April 27, 1961 [April 29, 1960; Aug. 10, 1960], No. 15338/61. Class 141. [Also in Groups VIII and XXXIII] A laminated material providing armoured protection for the body or head, or for vehicles, comprises at least two layers of relatively movable armouring elements, those of one layer being staggered in relation to those of the other or others, and interposed layers of flexible and elastic foamed organic material, e.g. closed-cell foamed polyvinyl chloride. The armouring elements may be of steel, aluminium, bronze, or of polyamide, and may comprise small plates spaced from one another in each layer, or may be of woven or chain formation. The foam layers may be adhesively secured to one another between the plates &c. or the layers may be wholly or partly secured together by stitching. Cover layers of fabric or plastics material may be provided. The Figure shows a vest armoured at least on the front and exemplifying on the right side foamed layers 1 carrying, adhesively, spaced metal plates 2 of which those in an upper layer overlap those in the layer beneath. The left-side shows spaced strips 6a of chain link material, the strips in successive layers being staggered laterally. The garment has an underlayer 7 of fabric.
