Abstract

1295718 Laminates BRITISH ROPES Ltd 19 April 1971 [4 Feb 1970] 5408/70 Heading B5N A load bearing member for a haulage system comprises a layer 1 of spaced parallel load bearing monofilaments, e.g. of plain-carbon or alloy steel covered at least on its opposed faces by protective resiliently deformable plastics material 2, 3, e.g. of natural or synthetic rubber, polyvinyl chloride polypropylene nylon polyethylene terephthalate or mixture thereof, the monofilaments not adhering to the plastics material. In one embodiment, the member comprises a plurality of layers of filaments, each layer of filaments being spaced from adjacent layer(s) by deformable plastics material, the filaments of one layer being preferably offset from those of the adjacent layers. One or more of the layers of plastics material may have corrugations 4, 5 in which the filaments are disposed.
