Abstract

1316446 Conveyer belts BTR INDUSTRIES Ltd 19 April 1971 [30 April 1970] 20944/70 Heading B5N A conveyer belt comprises a body of elastomeric material in which is embedded a layer of longitudinal reinforcing cords, e.g. of steel lying side by side, a layer of transverse strands suitably of steel also embedded in the body of the belt which all cross the longitudinal cords on one side only of the longitudinal cord layer, and means for holding the transverse strands adjacent to the longitudinal cords which extends through the longitudinal cord layer to the other side of the layer. In one embodiment (Fig. I) a second layer of transverse strands B is provided on the opposite side of the longitudinal cord layer L, the first layer of transverse strands A being attached to the second layer by means of clips C extending through the layer or (Fig. 3) strands from the second layer B passing over strands A in the first layer. The strands in the first transverse layer may be in groups or in a web and each group or web may be attached to the second transverse layer by a strand from the second layer passing over such group or web. In another embodiment (Fig. 6) clips B which extend through to and engage with the opposite face of the longitudinal cord layer L may be employed to hold the transverse strands. In a further embodiment (Fig. 10) a transverse braided strand A is united to a second strand B by rivets or staples E. In Fig. 11 (not shown) pins F are used to connect transverse layers A and B. The transverse layers may be at right angles or any other angle to the longitudinal reinforcing layer.
