Abstract

1391958 Candles B L GROSS 18 July 1972 [19 July 1971] 33527/72 Heading C5W Candles are made with wicks which are constrained by the solid wax of the candle in shapes different from the normal shape of the wick so that as the wick burns part of the wick adjacent the flame is freed by the melting of wax and returns to its unconstrained shape. The wick can comprise cotton or string and can have a spring wire of low melting point in its centre or can be located inside a polyethylene tube. Fig. 1 shows a candle 10 having a wick 12 of which the normal shape is a coil and which moves as shown in Fig. 2 as the candle burns. Various other shapes of candle having one or more wicks and in which the flame moves in various paths are illustrated. The wicks need not be entirely embedded within the candle wax but can be attached thereto, e.g. by staples.
