CANDLESTICK Filed May 1, 1951 l N VENT OR oMfw/co PER/v/c/ www M @M ATTORNEYS United States Patent C CANDLESTICK Domenico Pernici, Alzano Lombardo, Italy Application May 1, 1951, Serial No. 223,888
2 Claims. (Cl 67-23) The present invention relates to a candlestick for double use, that -is to say, adapted to be used as a m-ark for a place or seat, as well as a candlestick for fancy-cakes.
So far, a large number of types of Candlesticks for small candles have been proposed, which however are exclusively adapted for either one or the other purpose, that is to say, either to be employed as an ornamental means for indicating the place of a guest, or as a characteristic means representative of the number of years of age of the person whose birthday is celebrated, by an equal number of small candles on a fancycake.
it is the main object of the present invention to provide a candestick apt to be employed for both those uses.
Both purposes are attained with the candlestick according to the present invention, which is essentially characterized by the fact it is constituted by two bodies that can becombined with each other, and of which one constitutes the cup supporting the candle and the other the standard on which said cup can be mounted, said standard being shaped in such a manner that it can be utilized for using the candlestick as a place-mark as well as for using it with transformed mount with a fancy cake In order to attain the purposes specified hereinbefore, according to the novel principle as stated, the standard carrying the candle-cup is constituted by a body shaped as a pedestal, which has two tanks, oneat each end, that are adapted respectively to permit to it the cup for carrying the candle, said cup being provided with a corresponding cavity.
ln order to allow for using the candlestick as a place- .mark, the pedestal is provided with a cavity of such a depth as to contain a tang designed to receive the cup for carrying the candle and as .to prevent said tang from touching the plane or surface on which the said standard is placed.
In order to make the Candlestick like a common candlestick in appearance, the standard designed to be used as an upright onto which the cup for carrying the candle 4is to be mounted if using the candlestick as a placemark, is provided suiiciently high above the plane of said pedestal.
The invention will now be described more in detail with reference to one embodiment illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein:
Fig. 1 represents on a scale near to natural size the candlestick mounted and apt to act as a place-mark;
Fig. 2 is a top view of Fig. l;
Fig. 3 shows the stage of dismantling the two bodies 2,696,097 Patented Dec. 7, 1954 forming the candlestick prior to employing the latter for fancy-cakes; and
Fig. 4 represents a candlestick mounted for use with fancy-cakes.
With reference to `the accompanying drawing, with 1 is indicated the stand-ard and with 2 the cup for carrying the candle 3, which pieces are apt to be combined with each other. To this end the standard 1 is constituted by a pedestal 4 of convex shape, from which :rises a stem 5 on the tip of which can be litted the terminal portion 7 of the small cup 2 provided with a cavity of suit-able shape to iit the two parts to each other.
In this way the candlestick is ready for use as a placemark.
In order that the candlestick may be employed also for fancy-cakes, the pedestal 4 is provided inside with a short tang S the length of which is comprised in the height provided by the oonvexity of said pedestal, or better to say by the space between its top and the plane 9, on which the pedestal rests, and which is represented with a dash-and-dotted line. In this Way, the projection 8 does not touch the supporting plane, so that the erect position of the candlestick is not impaired.
in order to employ the candlestick for fancy-cakes (Fig. 4), it suffices t-o detach the small cup 2 from the standard 5 and fit it over the tip 8, which members therefore assume the position indicated in Fig. 4, where they are indicated with the same reference numerals, but with apices. In said Fig. 4, 4' indicates the pedestal, 5 the extension, which before supported the small cup, which extension however in this case serves as a means for sticking into the fancy-cake 1i); 8 is the short tang onto which the small cup 2 is now tted.
As appears evident, the candlestick according to the present invention oers considerable advantages over conventional types also from the point of View of appearance, which is more appealing, as the two bodies may be combined in different col-ours and may be also of different material.
Of course, in practice, the dimensions, the materials employed, as well as the shape of the pedestal may be varied without departing from the scope of protection of the patent.
What I claim is:
l. A candle holder comprising a standard having opposing conical ends, an integral flange `on the standard radially extending from the standard adjacent one end and extending axially of the standard toward said end and in spaced lradial relation thereto to encircle said end and a cup member adapted to receive a candle and having a conical socket formed therein to selectively receive one of the said ends ofthe standard.
2. The combination of claim l, wherein said end of the standard that is encircled by the flange terminates inwardly of the plane of the periphery of said flange.
