Abstract
1391907 Appliances for moving loads REDPATH DORMAN LONG Ltd 24 March 1972 [7 May 1971] 13731/71 Heading B8B [Also in Division E1] Apparatus facilitating the movement of bridge spans, comprises a pair of endless belts 42 each passing around and in contact with a support shoe 40, the belt and the shoe presenting anti-frictive surfaces to each other such that the span, supported by the belt and shoe is movable by relative sliding between the belt and shoe. The shoes 40 are pivotally mounted in a frame which may be either mounted on the ground, whereby the span moves with the belts passing over the shoes, or mounted on the span, whereby the belt engages a smooth track on the ground for movement therealong. The frame comprises a pair of channel members between which the shoes are pivotally and adjustably mounted, and a fulcrum support for the frame, permitting pivoting of the frame about an axis parallel to the shoe pivot axes. Each shoe includes a groove in its upper surface, through which the belt 42 moves, the contact surface of which is faced with polytetrafluoroethylene or polished stainless steel and belt guides 44, 46 are provided at the ends of the grooves. The shoe contacting face of the belts are faced with polytetrafluoroethylene which may be reinforced with glass fibres. Rollers 48, 450 guide the belt at each end of the groove on each shoe. In the embodiment of Fig. 1 (not shown) a single belt passes around two aligned shoes.
