Abstract
1391831 Apparatus for pouring metal into moulds E BUHRER 28 April 1972 [30 April 1971 1 March 1972] 19957/72 Heading B3F [Also in Division G1] A method of casting comprises weighing the mould, introducing molten metal into the mould while continuing to weigh said mould, and terminating the introduction of metal when a predetermined increase in weight has been reached. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 1, the mould 26 is provided with two separate cavities and three weighing devices 21 and 22 are arranged so that one of them is positioned on the line through the centre of gravity of one mould cavity, while the other two are symmetrically offset from the centre line of the other mould cavity. The vessel 33 containing the molten metal is provided with four outlets each closable by a plug 34, 35 and discharging into a flow directing member 27, 28, (29), and (30). Either one or two program control members 44 and 45 are provided; in the former case the member 44 controls the operation of all four plugs. Two of the outlets from the vessel 33 are closed before the remaining two so as to reduce the rate of introduction of the metal to the mould during the last stages of the pouring operation. When two program control members are provided the introduction of metal into each of the mould cavities is controlled independently of one another. The mould may be supported by a plate 59 resting on a plurality of rolls 55, the shaft of each roll being supported in a two-armed lever 58 pivotally secured to a shaft 57 mounted on a support 54. Springs 62 extending between levers 58 and fixed members 64 cause an upward force to be applied to the plate 59 on which the mould rests.
