Abstract

1391775 Furnace wall panels ZIRCONAL PROCESSES Ltd 30 June 1972 [9 July 1971] 32417/71 Heading F4B Composite panels for the construction of furnace walls comprise a box-like shell 1 of ceramic fibrous material, a layer of ceramic fibre 2 held by a steel mesh 3 a tray-shaped blanket 4, a mineral wool layer 5, a steel backing plate 11 and an angle-section frame 6. Countersunk bolts 8 extend through the frame 6, shell 1, and tray 4 and threaded stems 9 on the frame engage T-piece by which adjacent panels are united (Fig. 2). In a modification (Fig. 3) a box (15) of aluminosilicate fibre is partially filled with similar loose fibre (19) held by a stainless steel mesh tray (20) followed by more loose fibre (19), a slab (23) of mineral fibre and a thin steel plate (24). The latter is welded to a U-shaped steel frame (18) engaging the box sides.
