Abstract

1391750 Submersible smoke signalling devices CENTRE NATIONAL POUR L'EXPLOITATION DES OCEANS and LE NICKEL 14 Nov 1973 [21 Nov 1972] 52913/73 Heading F3A A submersible signalling device, comprises: means for automatically igniting a smokeproducing composition when the device reaches the surface of the water after having been submerged; and means for plugging discharge means while the smoke-producing composition remains unignited, and for opening the discharge means when the composition is ignited. In the embodiment, the device comprises a cylindrical body 1a and a pin 7 which is moved inwardly by the action of hydrostatic pressure on a diaphragm 8 to become coupled with a lever 11. As the signalling device reaches the surface of the water, the pin 7 returns to its original position and draws a cylinder 15 into contact with a washer 3 to complete the firing circuit of an igniting cartridge. A slow fuse ignited by the cartridge conveys the ignition to the smoke-producing composition. The smoke thus produced blows off a cap at the other end of the body and is thereby discharged.
