Abstract
1391665 Cubic boron nitride GENERAL ELECTRIC CO 22 June 1972 [1 July 1971] 29363/72 Heading C1A Hexagonal boron nitride is converted into cubic boron nitride in the presence of at least one alloy of aluminium with cobalt, nickel or manganese. The temperature and pressure conditions and the apparatus are conventional for the conversion. The alloy may be pre-formed or prepared in situ, and it may be used in sheet form or particulate form, in this ease mixed with the hexagonal boron nitride. A finely divided hard crystalline material such as tungsten carbide, cubic boron nitride, aluminium oxide or silicon nitride may be mixed with the boron nitride charge. Tool inserts may be prepared by the process of the invention.
