Abstract

1391655 Feeding webs EASTMAN KODAK CO 25 May 1972 [26 May 1971] 24715/72 Heading B8R Apparatus for feeding a film through a solution applicator track 40, Fig 2, and a solution washing track 41 comprises a pair of continuously driven rollers 16, 18 moving the film at a faster speed than an endless chain 34 or another pair of rollers 47, 48; 51, 52, Fig 7, to feed the web in a relaxed state for contacting the tracks 40, 41 The film W, Fig 3, supplied from a cartridge C, which, when in position between guides 2, 3 closes a switch 4 including a feeler 5, is advanced by the rollers 16, 18, brought into engagement by an electromagnet 7 following closure of the switch 5, to a feeler 20 sensing the leading edge L of the film 5. The feeler 20 causes a further electromagnet 21 to arrest the drive of roller 16 by interposing an arm 27 into the path of a slip clutch driven gear 28 and starts the drive of endless chain 34 whose towing bar 37 engages an aperture O, Fig 7, in the film W. The towing bar 37 moving at a slower speed than the rollers 16, 18 which following engagement of the bar 37 are released for rotation by de-energization of the electromagnet 21, causes the film to contact the tracks 40, 41, the towing bar 37 being disengaged from the aperture O when the leading edge L has been advanced to the nip of the rollers 47, 48; 51, 52. These rollers feed the leading edge L into a guide 55 at the end of which is disposed a winding station 46. The towing bar 37 is arrested opposite a switch 39 whose feeler 38 interrupts the drive, derived from a common motor 6, to the chain 34. The film W during its passage from the cartridge C to the rollers 47, 48; 51, 52 is guided over rollers 57, 58.
