Abstract

1391649 Making liquified petroleum gas; hydrocracking UNIVERSAL OIL PRODUCTS CO 11 July 1972 [12 July 1971] 32335/72 Heading C5E Liquified petroleum gas (LPG) is made from a liquid hydrocarbon feedstock boiling above the gasoline boiling range in a two-stage hydrocracking process, each stage 4, 9 being followed by a separation stage 6, 11. The first stage 6 provides a vapour phase 7 containing gasolines, and a higher boiling liquid phase 2. The stage 11 provides a vapour phase 3 and a liquid phase 12 which contains LPG, and is separated at 13 into unreacted gasolines and LPG. The stages 4, 9 are catalytic, and while the pressures in the stages 6, 11 are respectively the same as those in the stages 4, 9, e.g. about 2000 p.s.i.g., the temperature in the stage 6 is about 400‹ F. and in the stage 11 it is in the range 60‹ to 140‹ F. The feedstock 1 may be subjected to an initial hydrorefining stage over a Ni-Mo catalyst on an alumina-silica support, at a temperature of about 850‹ F., some propane-butane being recovered, and product heptane-390‹ F. naphtha being passed to stage 9. Recycle streams of H 2 at 3 and naphtha at 8 are shown on the Figure, and some of the naphtha 8 may be recycled to the separation stage 6. The catalysts in stages 4, 9 contain at least one Group VIII of Group VIB metal, or Sn, Ge, Re, and the catalyst in stage 9 is preferably zeolitic.
