Abstract

1389956 Tube mills F L SMIDTH & CO AS 10 Sept 1973 42365/73 Heading B2A A tube mill 1 Fig. 1 comprises one or more grinding chambers 2, 3 and downstream of the or the first grinding chamber 1 a short compartment 7 bounded downstream by a dam ring 9 with a central opening 11 Fig. 2 and upstream by a sieving diaphragm 8 Fig. 4. The short compartment 7 is itself divided by an intermediate plate 12 which has one or more openings as at 13 or 14 Fig. 3 into an upstream section having no lifters and a downstream section having lifters which may be curved or straight 18. The intermediate plate includes a shroud 15 Fig. 1 and a discharge opening 16. The mill 1 is lined at 6 and feed and discharge are via hollow trunnions. The compartment 7 is lined at 10. The diaphragm may comprise sections and may have different arrangements of slits e.g. 19 or 20. The dam ring 9 may be rigidly attached to the mill shell and the diaphragm 8 and plate 12 may be supported from the dam ring by spacers.
