Abstract

1389745 Bearings D WALKER 10 July 1973 [28 July 1972] 35302/72 Heading F2A An adjustable bearing for a shaft 22 comprises a substantially spherical ball member 2 formed with a shaft-receiving bore 5 which is eccentric relative to the centre 10 of the ball, a housing 12 having an inner substantially spherical surface accommodating said ball such that it can be rotated in the housing, and means whereby the ball can be held stationary relative to the housing. The ball member has planar end faces 4, and in order to facilitate rotation and/or swivelling in the housing, is formed with a hole or recess 20 to be engaged by a tool. The ball member is clamped in position either by tightening bolts 18, or in a further embodiment in which the housing is formed in one piece by tightening a set-screw. The housing is secured to a base-plate by means of bolts 36 passing through slots 34 which are elongate, thereby allowing lateral adjustment. The shaft is mounted in the bore by means of a plain or a rolling bearing.
