Abstract

1389725 Tool holders O BAY 16 March 1972 [16 March 1971] 12383/72 Heading B3T A cutting tool assembly comprises a holder 1 having a dovetail groove 2 therein and a "U"- shaped clamping member 3 in the groove, the member having a rectangular slot therein to receive the shank 7 of a cutting tool. The outside surfaces 5 of the member walls 4 are inclined to the axis of the member to engage the corresponding inclined walls 6 of the dovetail groove. Screws 11 are provided in the wall 10 connecting the side walls of the "U"-shaped member and are actuated to engage the tool shank 7 to urge it transversely into engagement with the bottom 13 of the groove 2. At the same time the clamping member 3 is displaced transversely to engage the respective inclined walls between the member and the groove causing a wedging action whereby all four sides of the tool shank are gripped.
