Abstract
1389367 Blast furnace linings SIGRI ELEKTROGRAPHIT GmbH 17 Aug 1973 [19 Aug 1972] 39099/73 Heading F4B A blast furnace stack lining is at least partially constituted by bricks formed of carbon 5 and/or carbon-bonded graphite 6 and/or graphite 3 and/or silicon carbide having graphite laminate plates 8 between at least some of the joints between adjacent bricks, which plates are obtained by compressing expanded graphite which initially has a density of from 0À5 to 1À5 g./cc. and a linear compressability of from 4 Î 10<SP>-2</SP> to 2 Î 10<SP>-4</SP> cm.<SP>2</SP>/kp. The plates have a thickness of from 0À1 to 1% relative to the height or thickness of adjacent bricks at rightangles to the plane or planes of the plates. The joints remote from the interior of the stack have thinner plates than those closer to the interior but of a higher density prior to compression.
