Abstract

Refractory bricks are separated by layers of a mixture of mineral materials which are only compatible with the bricks and which decompose under the effects of heat, the decomposition taking place in different temp. ranges and reducing the overall linear expansion at the hot face during the rise in temp. from 450 degrees C to the operating one. The mixture pref. comprises 50-80% talc, 10 to 40% magnesium hydroxide, 0-40% magnesium carbonate, 0-10% vermiculite and 0-5% clay. Pref. the binder for the refractory brick is sodium silicate or polyvinyl acetate, or both.
