Abstract
1388637 Catalytic reactor for gas reactions GOULD Inc 25 May 1972 [2 June 1971 13 Dec 1971 3 May 1972] 24705/72 Heading B1F [Also in Division F1] A catalytic structure for use in the removal of nitrogen oxide gases from the exhaust gases of I.C. engines comprises a plurality of closely packed layers of an apertured thin (e.g. <0.01 inch) metal foil having on the surface thereof a catalyst material capable of catalysing the reduction of the nitrogen oxides, the chemical composition of the catalyst material being different from that of the metal foil. The layers may be in the form of helically wound expanded metal with different size apertures, and may comprise Fe, Ni, Co, Cu or Mn on a nickel base foil. The cross section of expanded metal may be as shown in Fig. 7.
