Abstract
1459632 Treating exhaust gases TOYOTA CHUG KENKYUSHO KK 3 April 1974 [3 April 1973] 14811/74 Heading C1A [Also in Division B1] Nitrogen oxides in exhaust gases from I.C. engines are reduced by successive contact in a catalytic converter with (i) a first catalyst layer having a sintered body structure and consisting of a particulate mixture of (a) nickel oxide and copper oxide; (b) manganese oxide and one or more of cerium oxide, lanthanum oxide, iron oxide, niobium oxide or nickel oxide; or (c) cobalt oxide and niobium oxide and/or yttrium oxide, and (ii) a second layer comprising platinum, platinum-rhodium, platinum-palladium or nickel oxide-chromium oxide-copper oxide-iron oxide-barium oxide. A further catalyst layer comprising copper and/or copper oxide and, optionally, lanthanum and/or cerium oxide may be situated upstream of the first layer. The layers may be situated in a single internally divided vessel or in separate reactors connected by piping.
