Abstract

1388509 Winding webs AGFA GEVAERT AG 29 Dec 1972 [30 Dec 1971] 59968/72 Heading B8R In a method of and apparatus for winding webs, e.g. of photographic paper, into rolls, two groups of driven winding shafts 9b, 10b, fitted with winding tubes 11, are located on pneumatically pivotable arms 12 which are movable sequentially to a position adjacent a winding on mechanism 8 for initiating winding of webs on to the respective tubes 11 and to a respective remote location for the winding to be completed, the webs then being severed by a cutting unit (7) Fig. 2 (not shown). The webs may be supplied from a large roll at 1 cut into two groups 3 of webs at 2, the groups 3 being fed through two identical units 5 each comprising web drive rollers 28, 29 the latter being pneumatically movable to stop the web, the web cutting unit (7) including a circular cutting blade (22) on a carriage (24). The winding-on mechanism 8 comprises a cylinder 15 with a pneumatically operated hingeable portion which opens for reception of a winding shaft 9, 10 and then closes so that the group 3 of webs, threaded through a gap 17, is wound on to the tubes 11 with the aid of rubber rollers (19). After winding-on, the cylinder 15 is opened, the shaft removed to the remote location where winding is completed and the webs are cut. Meanwhile, the other shafts, initially at the remote location, have their web rolls unloaded and are then moved to the winding-on mechanism for the next winding cycle.
