Abstract
1388473 Winding filters KUNSTSTOFFVERARBEITUNG & SCHREINEREI DIPL. ING. ADOLF VOSS 26 Jan 1972 [2 Feb 1971] 3728/72 Heading B5A [Also in Divisions B1 and F2] A filter tube 1, suitable for use in fountains or wells, is made of synthetic resin, such as polyester, reinforced with fibres, e.g. glass fibres and comprises a plurality of helically disposed members 2 extending between webs 4 extending along the tube, and spaced apart by slots 3, and a thread 5 along the interior of the tube. Sections of any length can be cut off from such a tube; and the sections may then be readily interconnected by means of threaded nipples having extensions which may be screwed into the internal threads of the tube sections. The tube may comprise several layers 7, 8, 9, 10, (Fig. 3), of resin impregnated layers of fibres extending along the whole length of the tube in the members 2, and in the webs 4. Layers of resin impregnated fibre strands 11, 12, 13 are also provided in webs 4. The tube may be made by placing a collapsible mandrel 15 between the head and tail portions 28, 29 of the machine shown in Fig. 9. The mandrel 15 (Fig. 4), comprises an external thread 23 and a rib 24 which extends along the thread and has, on each turn of the thread, clearances 25, 26, 27 corresponding to the number of webs 4 to be produced. The rib portions between the clearances produce the slots in the finished tube. As the support 31 is moved along screw 43 the layer 7 from spool 32 is helically wound around the rotating mandrel. The annular support 33 is then moved along the stationary mandrel to lay the layer 11 from spools 35 longitudinally along the clearances 25, 26, 27 and to helically wind thread 14 from spool 38 mounted on rotating ring 37, around the layer 11. The process is then repeated to lay the subsequent layers 8 to 13 and threads 14<SP>1</SP>, 1411 to give the structure shown in Fig. 3. When the layers have hardened the mandrel 15 is removed from the tube 1.
