Abstract
1388463 Strain measuring device TINSLEY TELCON Ltd 30 March 1973 [26 April 1972] 19362/72 Heading G1N A strain measuring device comprises two electrical resistance strain gauges R, arranged in a Wien bridge, as shown, an oscillator connected to the bridge and a calibrated means for establishing the frequency of the oscillator whereby the resistance of the strain gauges may be evaluated. As shown in Fig 1, a variable frequency oscillater 16 is provided, the calibrated means being a device for adjusting and displaying the frequency of the oscillator. A null-centre ammeter A is also provided to determine the bridge balance point. As shown in Fig 2, the bridge is arranged in the feedback of an oscillator formed by a differential amplifier 20 to form a Wien bridge oscillator, the calibrated means being provided by a frequency meter 21, preferably a digital read out meter. The capacitors and strain gauges may have equal and opposite temperature coefficients to provide temperature compensation.
