Abstract
1388123 Brushes for dynamoelectric machines INTERNATIONAL RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT CO Ltd 26 Feb 1973 [29 Feb 1972] 9256/72 Heading H2A A current transfer brush comprises refractory fibres, e.g. carbon fibres, individually coated with an inner layer of a first metal and an outer layer of a second, highly conductive, metal. The inner layer may be titanium, vanadium, tantalum, chromium, molybdenum, tungsten, manganese, iron, cobalt, nickel or boron, and the outer layer silver, gold, copper, aluminium, cadmium, zinc or silver/copper alloys. The layers may be provided on the fibres by electroplating, pyrolysis of organo-metallic vapours, vacuum evaporation, sputtering, or electroless plating (chemical reduction of metallic salts). The fibres alternatively may have more than two layers in the coating, the electrical/mechanical properties being graded from inside to outside.
