Abstract

1387812 Screw-and-nut mechanism PILKINGTON PE Ltd 30 May 1972 [6 April 1971] 8916/71 Heading F2Q [Also in Division G2] A head-up display unit, incorporating a combiner plate 1 carried on a support 2 mounted by means of bushes 3, 4 on a guide tube 5, is movable axially along the guide tube 5 by screw-and-nut gearing comprising a screwthreaded shaft 8 which is engaged by a segmental nut 12 having an extending portion 13 carried by the support 2 and located in a slot 14 in the upper wall of tube 5. Rotation of shaft 8 causes axial movement of support 2. Engagement or disengagement of the nut 12 may be effected by operation of a trigger 18 acting against a spring 16. The shaft 8 is driven from a motor through gearing 19, 20, 22, 23 and a gear-box. Preferably the bushes 3, 4 are of the recirculating ball type. The position of member 2 is sensed by means comprising a rack and pinion and a potentiometer.
