Abstract

1387474 Link chains DUCHESS MFG CORP 1 Feb 1972 [3 Feb 1971] 4678/72 Heading A3H [Also in Division E2] The end links 12 of a link chain 10 for use as a bracelet, necklace, or watch-band, are detachable and comprise a twin-rod linkhalf 15 (Figure 3) and a centre link-half 14 (shown exploded in Figure 2). The rods 20 and 22 of the twin-rod linkhalf 15 are force-fitted into and permanently engage its end lugs 16 and 18. When assembled the centre link-half 14 has a closed bearing which permanently holds one of the rods 20 or 22, and a bearing 32 for the other rod operable by means of a sliding panel 28 which slides in a passageway formed by straps 40, 42, and 44 in the bottom portion 26 of the centre link-half 14. The panel 28 is held in its closed position by engagement between an abutment 48 on the panel 28 and the enclosed rod 20 or 22, and has a slot 52 to allow it to be shifted by a jeweller's pick, the straps 40 and 44 being notched at 54 and 56 to facilitate this operation. Before assembly of the link 12 and of the centre link-half 14 the tabs 36, 38, and 50 of the top portion 24 of the latter are not yet inturned (Figure 6, not shown). The top and bottom portions 24 and 26 of the centre linkhalf 14 are then assembled together with the twin-rod link-half 16 to imprison one of its rods 20 or 22 in the resulting closed bearing, the sliding panel 28 is fitted, and the tabs 36, 38, and 50 are turned in to secure the parts together and to limit the movement of the panel 28.
