Abstract

1387169 Braiding-machines SEILINDUSTRIE FUR A G 18 Oct 1972 [21 July 1972] 48042/72 Headings D1C and D1K In a method of braiding a wire cable the individual strands are flattened at regular intervals prior to interlacing where the strands will contact one another. The flattened areas are offset around the circumference of the strand. A carrier for flattening the strands carries a spool 2 between end plates 5 and 6, and a letoff 8 for disengaging a release lever 4a. The strand is guided by a series of rollers including rollers 11, 12 either side of the flattening device 20. The device may comprise a single ram 18, acting against a wheel 19 or another ram. It is rotatable about the axis of the strand by a motor to offset the flattened areas. Alternatively a series of devices at different arcuate locations may be arranged across the carrier and arranged to operate in unison.
