1293951 Stranding GLANZSTOFF AG 22 Oct 1969 [9 Nov 1968] 51742/69 Heading D1T A wire stranding apparatus wherein the wires 16 are pre-formed into helices before being stranded together comprises at least two coaxial discs 23, 24 each of these discs having at least one circular row of bores each of which rows in one disc is of the same diameter and contains the same number of bores as a corresponding row in the or each other disc, the bores in one disc being offset by an adjustable amount with respect to the bores in the or each other disc. The edges of the bores are curved and as the wires pass from one disc to the other the wires 16 are permanently deformed. The discs 23, 24 are rigid with a rotating cylinder 1 in which are floating spool carriers 3. As the wires 16 contact the edges of the bores in the discs 23, 24 said edges displace their points of contact on the wires 16 once around the periphery of the wire for every one revolution of the stranding apparatus. Each supply spool 2 is controlled by a brake 9 responsive to a dancer roller 4 over which the wire from the spool 2 passes. The stranded wires 27 pass through a twisting sleeve 25, pressure jaws 26, stretching rollers 28, 29, 31, 32, a false-twist attachment 30, a traversing element 33 and then onto a drum 34. The false-twist attachment and one pair of stretching rollers may be omitted. The discs 23, 24, the twisting sleeve 25, the stretching rollers, the false-twist attachment 30 and the winding mechanism may be connected to independent variable speed drives. The twisting sleeve 25 and the pressure jaws 26 may be displaced along the stranding axis. The bores in the discs 23, 24 have sleeves of metal carbide or other hard metal.
