Abstract

1387008 Power steering mechanism MITSUBISHI KINZOKU KOGYO KK 26 June 1972 [26 June 1971] 29743/72 Heading B7H [Also in Division G3] A rotary hydraulic servomotor, e.g. for power steering, has two pairs of servochambers 11, 13 and 12, 14 defined within casing 2 by vanes 5A, 5B on output member 5 and fixed webs 2A, 2B integral with the casing. The output member projects through end block 3 and includes a bushing 5L whereby it is rotatably mounted on a rotary input shaft 1 extending through block 3 and an opposite block 4. Follow-up valve mechanism is provided at 30 between the input shaft and bushing 5L, and may include grooves 23, 23a in the bushing supplied respectively from ports 19, 19a via 20-22 and 20a-22a. Groove 33 in the bushing is connected to drain via 34-36, and grooves 24, 24a in the input shaft connect respectively with chambers 11, 13 and 12, 14 via 26-29, 31, 32 and 26a-29a, 31a, 32a. There may be zero, negative or positive lap between the grooves in the input shaft and the output member when the valve mechanism is in neutral. In modifications (Figs. 8 and 9, not shown), the servochambers are connected to grooves in the output member and the supply and exhaust grooves are located in the input shaft and connected to axial passages in the input shaft. The grooves may be duplicated at diametrically opposite regions of the input shaft and the output member to ensure hydraulie balance of the input shaft (Fig. 10, not shown). In a further hydraulically-balanced embodiment (Fig. 11), the input shaft has supply grooves 66 and exhaust grooves 67, and the output member has grooves 68 communicating with chambers 11, 13 and grooves 69 communicating with chambers 12, 14.
