Abstract

1386583 Printing ink binders AKZO NV 25 June 1973 [13 Sept 1972] 30129/73 Heading C4A [Also in Division C3] A printing ink binder curable by U.V. light comprises a drying oil and/or a drying oil-based alkyd resin and a photocatalyst of formula wherein m is 0, 1 or 2, p is 1-5, and R is an alkyl or alkoxy group, when p is 1 the group R having at least 4 carbon atoms, and when p>1 the R groups having a total of at least 4 carbon atoms. The catalyst may amount to 0À5-10% by wt. of the binder to be cured. Examples I-IV relate to drying oils and Example V to a linseed oil-based alkyd resin binder, Examples I and II containing wood oil, Example III wood oil and a maleated resin, and Example IV wood oil and either linseed or stand oil, a cobalt drier being added to all the binders.
