Oct. 22, 1918 Leaf filters.-In filtering-apparatus of the type in which " filter-leaves " are enclosed in a removable cover, the cover runs on rails and is moved by a special traction mechanism, the covers of two sets of leaves being moved independently by the same mechanism. Special securing-devices for the covers are also provided. The filterleaves 17 are mounted on plates 27 against which fit the covers 45 which are carried on trucks 46 running on rails 42. The trucks are moved by chains 57 passing over sprockets 59 carried on rods secured to pistons moving in cylinders 51 and operated by compressed air. Projections 64 on the chains engage with projections 65 on the trucks to move them in one direction, and with pivoted catches 72 to move them in the other. The catches 72 can be moved out of the way of the projections 64 by means of handles 74, so that one truck can be moved without interfering with the other. To secure the covers 45 in place, there are provided T-shaped bolts 75, Fig. 7, passing through slots 77 in the flanges of the covers 45 and through the plates 27. The bolts 75 pass through screwed sleeves 78 which are operated to move the bolts longitudinally by nuts 86 rotated by work gear 95, 87. The bolts are rotated so as to cause their heads to assume a locking position, after passing through the slots 77, by pins 90 attached to the bearings in which the nuts 86 rotate, and engaging with appropriately-formed slots 91 in the bolts. The worms 95 operating the different bolts are rotated simultaneously bv means of a single hand-wheel and bevel-gearing. Pipes are provided for supplying liquid to be filtered, washing- liquid, and compressed air, and for removing the filtrate.
