Abstract

1385942 Loudspeaker STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd 30 March 1972 15077/72 Headings H4J and H4X A loudspeaker assembly comprises three full range baffle-mounted loudspeakers located with their centres of radiation at the corners of a triangle and mounted to be inclined relative to one another so that the front radiation axes of the respective loudspeakers converge. The triangle may be equilateral. "Full range" loudspeakers reproduce frequencies from at lesat 1,000 Hz. to 10,000 Hz. As described, a chipboard cabinet (Fig. 1) has baffle faces 7, 9 at an angle 11 of about 130 degrees and baffle faces 8, 10 at an angle 12 of about 124 degrees. Full range loudspeakers of miameter 5 inches are located at apertures 13, 14, 15, 16. The loudspeakers may be in a common chamber in the cabinet or in separate chambers. Absorbent bonded acetate fibre is in the or each chamber. If desired, a "tweeter" (not shown) may be centrally located. The cabinet is preferably sealed, apart from a breather hole. Alternatively it may be open backed. In use the assembly may be horizontal (as shown), vertical or at an angle. Two such assemblies may be used in sterophonic reproduction. Other cabinet constructions have a smoothly concave baffle face and may be part-spherical. Cabinet and/or baffle may be of plastics material such as cellular polypropylene. The front may be covered with flat mesh giving the cabinet a flat front appearance.
