Abstract

1385627 Dolls &c M I GLASS [trading as MARVIN GLASS & ASSOCIATES] 5 Oct 1973 [21 Dec 1972] 46655/73 Heading A6S A doll, &c has a body inside which is an interior compartment containing a weight shiftable by gravity to move the doll, &c from a first to a second position, the speed of shifting of the weight being restrained so that the doll, &c moves slowly. As shown, the weight is a granular material such as sand 38, within a compartment 36 in the torso of a doll 10. When the doll is positioned as shown in Fig. 3, the sand flows out of the compartment 36 and slowly past a flow-retarding flap valve 40 into the doll's head 20. After sufficient sand 38 has flowed into the doll's head 20, the change in position of the centre of gravity of the doll 10 causes it to stand on its head, flip its legs over, and land flat on its back, Fig. 1 (not shown). The doll 10 is then held vertically, Fig. 2, so that the flow-retarding flap valve 40 opens and allows the sand 38 to run quickly back into the compartment 36, ready for its next operation. The torso 12 of the doll consists of a flexible cover 32 within which foam rubber 30 holds the compartment 36. Similarly constructed legs 16 are connected by stiches 62 to the body, to allow pivoting movement. A crossbar 70 across the top of the compartment 36 journals on pins 68 at its ends frame bars 64, constituting the doll's arms, enclosed within loose covering 18 and formed with hand simulating pads 72. The doll's head 20, enclosed within a hood 26, has a boss 28 which engages a supporting surface as the doll stands on its head.
