Abstract

1385595 Measuring pressure fluid flow electrically F HOFFMANN-LA ROCHE & CO AG 19 June 1972 [26 July 1971] 28640/72 Heading GIN Apparatus for measuring the differential pressure P 1 -P 2 between two locations in a fluid includes a conduit 11 supplying an auxiliary fluid flow to the locations by way of two branches 12, 13 carrying respective flows Z 1 , Z 2 and having respective thermistors 16, 17 and restrictors 14, 15 whereby the difference in flow rates between the branches may be determined, the flow rate difference being significant of the pressure difference between the two locations. The thermistors are connected to respective constant current sources 18, 19 and to a differential amplifier 21 whereby the difference in potential drops across them is determined. In an alternative embodiment, for measuring fluid flow 23 rate in pipeline 22, a tube 25 is arranged at right-angles to the pipe line 22 and supplying an auxiliary fluid flow thereto by way of two branches or ducts 27, 28 of equal cross section and having thermistors 32, 33 and restrictors 29, 31, the ends of the ducts being turned through 90 degrees to face respectively upstream and downstream of the flow 23. As before amplifier 21 determines potential difference between the thermistors which is representative of the flow rate in pipe 22. Thermocouples may be used instead of thermistors.
